There are different types of learners and what works with one child may not work with another. Learning a bit about how the learning styles play into how you will introduce the lesson matters! You want to grab them right form the start!!
In this episode I discuss the different learning style and how you can create anticipatory sets that are targeted for you beautiful child or children.

Intro
Lynn Dean series she is the Author of The Homeschool Parents’ How-To Series–four online courses packed with tips for how to teach to a child’s strengths, how to merge lessons with life, how to encourage creativity, and how to raise a hero. Her books "How to Teach the Way Your Child Learns" helps us understand that if the doorways of understanding aren’t opening, maybe we need to try a different key. She highlights how temperament type, learning styles, and natural gifts affect the ways your child learns and how YOU can use this key understanding to unlock your child’s potential.
She also has How to Make Learning Meaningful, Memorable, and Fun
Highlighting that we remember only 10- 20% of what we read in books or hear in lectures, but when learning is ACTIVE, retention jumps to 70- 90%! Also How to Encourage Creativity in Your Child, here she talks about the six levels of higher learning which most schools teach only three. Lastly How to Raise a Hero God is the Master Storyteller He is crafting every chapter of HIStory to reveal His ultimate message.
Top three takeaways
- That we would help our children solidify their core values and beliefs so that when we make choices, and sometimes choices are made on a whim they would have a solid foundation and make good choices based on their morals and values on a whim.
- Sometimes we are struggling to do something as simple as open a door; but if we are using a car key to open our front door it isn't going to work. The key is bad and the door is bad it is just the key being used isn't created for what your trying to open!
- Children have their own way of learning and most of the time textbooks do not work!! Understanding how your child learns and finding what they are good at what fires them up that we can begin at a much younger age to help them think about what they were put on this earth to do!

Why starting with the end in mind will be so helpful.
Top reasons
- Beginning with the end in mind maximizes the potential of you achieving the desired goal.
- You are starting with a clear understanding of the destination.
- You will also avoid doing things just for the sake of doing them, you can and will be more intentional with your time and resources if you have the end in mind.
- You can think about actions and potential outcomes before they happen and how you will react.
- You are always prepared
- You can determine if an assignment or topic is worth pursuing because you know your final destination.
Example: If you are looking to lose weight you know planning you meals in advance is very important otherwise you will be scurrying for food and it probably won't be good.
Find out any laws in your state as to what is required for your state.
Once you know that start mapping it out starting with end in mind.
I want you to take your paper and jot down
- What are the subjects you want to teach 3 or 4 tops and sure one is an elective like art, music, dance, something in that vein. Right brain Left brain.
- What about those subjects excites you?
- What about those subjects excites your kids?
Preliminary Research Questions
- Take time to find out the cool things in the subject, like subcategories within the subject, maybe some specific niche things.
- What have other people done?
- What are your kids strengths?
- What are they really good at?
Things you need to think about:
- Are you looking to educate for mastery in this area or a basic understanding?
- As you figure out the subjects look ahead what are the goals for each subject?
- What books or literature are you going to read
- What videos are you going to use?
- What projects are you going to do?
- How are you going to use the Socratic Method to foster critical thinking skills?
- Are you wanting to teach thematic? Spiral?
- Are you wanting to use Montessori style, Charlotte Mason, PBL, inquiry based learning or a little bit of everything?
- Will you be outdoors? Play-based?
- Are you going to write a mission and vision statement for the family?
- Are you going to teach all the subjects or are you going to do some and partner with others?

Intro
Mandi was born in South Africa and later moved to Zimbabwe in 1996. After moving to America in 2013, she had to adjust to a new life, new community, new culture and new experiences. It has not been an easy journey.
As a certified academic life coach, veteran home educator, speaker, career coach, and ACC ICF coach,she helps teens and young adults take action to live a life of purpose. Mandi feels coaching improves motivation, time management, organization, emotional regulation, relationships, mindsets, and helps students with anxiety, life transitions, careers or vocation.
Mandi also coaches parents with her "The Coach Parent Mindset," which supports parents in "The Coach Approach" to parenting and home education. This approach transforms relationships as parents help their adolescents take more ownership and responsibility

- What social emotional learning really is, it is a heart transformation in Christ so that children, teens and young adults DO NOT allow their emotions to control and dictate what they do; and they have the tools to understand what is happening to them emotionally and be able to correct their actions.
- Helping kids understand that they may not always feel like doing things and to overcome this and understanding the consequences of not being responsible.
- Teaching a child to take personal responsibility for their actions guiding them in a Socratic manner of questions rather than the boss manager approach most parents and those in authority use.
