The Homeschool Advantage is a podcast about reclaiming learning as a way of life.
Hosted by educator, author, and instructional leader Bex Buzzie, the show explores how families, teachers, and educational leaders can support meaningful learning—whether children are homeschooled, enrolled in public or charter schools, or navigating a blend of both.
Drawing from over two decades in education and recent work in educational leadership, Bex brings together voices from across the learning landscape, including homeschool families, classroom teachers, curriculum creators, microschools, co-ops, and education innovators.
This is not a podcast about choosing the “perfect” system.
It’s about partnership, posture, and presence.
Whether you’re a parent supporting learning at home, a teacher rethinking instruction, or an educator seeking deeper alignment between school and life, The Homeschool Advantage offers thoughtful conversations, practical insights, and a return to the basics of how learning actually happens.
Because homeschooling isn’t a location.
It’s a posture.

The story behind her naming her blog hide the chocolate is one you just have to hear for yourself! She shares in her blog all of the fun things she does with her lessons.
Dachelle has gone even further and created Literary Adventures for kids because she wanted to create solutions to make homeschooling easier, didn't want another curriculum that sticks her kids in front of a computer, wanted her kids to share magical experiences and become lifelong learners!
Top three takeaways
- There is no such thing as accredited curriculum, which gives you the wonderful opportunity to teach your child the material using things that will work specifically for them!
- Creating themes for different days of the week can bring in lots of fun and creativity to your lessons.
- Book Clubs are a great way to take your lessons and your reading to another level by recreating things that you are reading about making connections that last a lifetime.

Homeschooling is not school at home because life happens every day and there are things we just cannot control.
-
Homeschooling could be organized, snuggling up on the couch with a book, outdoor learning adventures and discovery, there is no right or wrong way to teach your child you just have to find your groove.
-
When beginning this journey there are a few questions you need to ask yourself: - What are the family needs. - What is the work schedule. - What is the family style. - Do both or one parent work - Are their multiple siblings - Do we want religious based curriculum And there are so many many more...

What it is and isn't;
-
Examples of play based learning
-
The many benefits that come from play based learning
- Play based learning can allow you parent to challenge your child's thinking to problem solve, think critically, strategize, you can also help learn to overcome frustrations, deal with their emotions, how to interact in social situations, teach them to lead and how to be a team player to work with others and show them to understand the difference between the two and when each is appropriate, how to tap into their curiosity and remain safe away from dangerous and precarious situations, explore their creativity and expand ideas and improvise.
- If you think you cannot just start small and start now. Start right now this summer and do this one hour a day. One hour a day of play based learning will change your family dynamics. I know this because my husband and I have been playing games like catan and secret Hitler with our friends and we are all full fledge adults and it has built in us the exact things I am talking about right here and we do it twice a month so imagine one hour a day with your flesh and blood what that will do!
- Remove your child from the public school system if you haven't already and never return them there. Take a gap period to learn about your children and your family dynamics. Your lifestyle and learning style and the needs of the family. They will only be this age once you don't get do overs

Intro
I Create Art is a family owned business, and they strive to bring you the best art curriculum and curated art box to the public. I create art has its roots in art education for over 14 years. Owners and CEO's Sam and Karen Esposito have founded icreateartbox.com with a simple principle - empower kids with the finest art curriculum. They have a team of dedicated instructors that are passionate about what they do and their creativity, and has amassed the largest kids art box collections ach art box is curated using quality materials, time tested lesson plans and resourced with educational facts.
The final touch to each art kit are instructional videos, where students are guided through each project with an instructor. These boxes are developed for all ages, the I Create Art Collection ranges from Young Artists (3 - 6 years) to Advanced Art (10 and older). The Homeschool Series has a curriculum dedicated to the homeschool student and the new Christian Art Box combines art with family values.
Top three takeaways
- You do not have to buy all of your curriculum from one place. You can bring together your own educational plan that meets your child's interests
- Critical thinking and problem solving are some of the biggest attributes in learning art because you have to figure out scaling of your picture, paint type, type of medium to use, where to begin, what type of brush and or color type.
- When people are excellent in what they do they make it seem easy, but there is usually a lot of trial and error into perfecting their craft.

My Name is Bex Buzzie and I am a public school teacher of over 21+ years. And yes I still teach full time but I am wholeheartedly championing the wave of homeschooling and want more people to know they have options, they are not stuck.
In this episode I get a bit raw and uninhibited in this episode but it is only because I am absolute on what is happening in institutionalized schooling versus schooling to educate and expand the love of learning. I hope you enjoy!!
One takeaway: Homeschool Is NOT school at home!!
Top 3 Nuggets from June's Interviews
- One Homeschool means you choose the curriculum and you choose your lifestyle and child's education interest!
- Two homeschool is where your child learns to love to learn again!!
- Three homeschool is where you get to be part of your child's education process!
