Intro
Daniel Schwabauer, the creator of The One Year Adventure Novel, Cover Story, and Byline writing curriculum designed for homeschool students.
Runt the Brave and Runt the Hunted, the first two of his young adult novels, have received numerous awards, including the 2005 Ben Franklin Award for Best New Voice in Children’s Literature and the 2008 Eric Hoffer Award. The final book in the trilogy, The Curse of the Seer, released with AMG Publishers in 2015.
His professional work includes stage plays, radio scripts, short stories, newspaper columns, non-fiction ghost-writing, and comic books..
He is also editor of Crosswind Comics, which develops educational materials for youth-at-risk and prison inmates, among them the Amazing True Life Stories series as well as The Amazing Gospel graphic novel, which has been translated into several languages and distributed around the world.

1) Writing needs to create curiosity and provoke questions. We need to provoke questions and have the reader or listener ask the question rather than answer questions that no one is asking so answers don't fall on deaf ears. Which is why video games are so popular because it provokes questions are along the way.
2) Education is designed for what is easier for the teacher so the teacher can teach a large number of students.
3) We are wired for stories and we learn more deeply through story. Children's brains are wired for wonder (better than you expect), horror (but not terribly awful things, just things worse than they expect) and humor (because things are a little different than they expect.)

Simply Teaching Spanish mission is to help students learn Spanish quickly and easily while having fun. The program focuses on inspiring her students to fall in love with the language, help them feel confident as they learn and to provide them with various learning methods.

1) Create a fun and relaxed environment in which learning to speak, read, listen, and write in Spanish are fun!
2) Games are a great way to reinforce their learning it is also offering them opportunities to speak and practice the language.
3) Present information in bite-size pieces so as not to overwhelm them. The more engaged they are, the more they'll learn.
Simply Teaching Spanish Program uses
Technology
Both Zoom and Google Classroom are used for all online classes. Google Classroom is used to share homework assignments with the students.
Curriculum
The curriculum we use makes learning Spanish vocabulary easy. In just a few weeks, students find that they're able to form full sentences.
Games
Games are incorporated in our classes to test students' understanding of the Spanish language in a fun and entertaining manner.
Video
Spanish-speaking-only videos are incorporated in each class in order to help students learn Spanish through the immersion method.

This part of teaching is the simplest but the most effective part of the lesson. Here is where you answer that nagging question all of you parents have ruminating in the back of your mind "how do I know if they learned?" Our objective today is to help you be able to assess your student's understanding and concept acquisition daily using different closure techniques that will help you gauge where they are at in an instant.
Today you will learn how to
- Check for understanding.
- Create the opportunities for your child to draw conclusions from the lesson and for your more quiet thinkers to have the opportunity to articulate their ideas and thoughts.
- Foster more reflective thinking
- Reflect on your own teaching and lessons and not beat yourself up!
Exit Tickets
Are a formative assessment tool to provide the educator with an informal measure of how their students are doing. Students are also able to reflect, think critically, and express their thoughts on what they have just learned.
Reflection
This gives students the time to process what they have learned and the time to think about what they have been thinking about. This also helps the teacher know if the students has a clear picture of the what was learned.
Formative assessments some examples are:
- Ask them to write one thing that stuck with them from the lesson.
- Ask them to verbally answer one question about the day's lesson before they can leave the class.
- Have them create a tweet.
- Have them create a flipgrid.
Reflections can be either a formative or summative assessment tool
Examples are
- Journals
- Have them give a classmate an affirmation of the work they did that day.
- Asking questions like this one:
- Any ideas as to why we didn't get very far in today's lesson?
Think of some exit ticket that you could use in your lesson closure?
- Think creatively
- Exit tickets are short.
- Exit tickets can be daily and are informal.
