Take time to Reflect Thursday Teacher Talk

This part of teaching is the simplest but the most effective part of the lesson.  Here is where you answer that nagging question all of you parents have ruminating in the back of your mind "how do I know if they learned?" Our objective today is to help you be able to assess your student's understanding and concept acquisition daily using different closure techniques that will help you gauge where they are at in an instant.  
Today you will learn how to  
Check for understanding. 
Create the opportunities for your child to draw conclusions from the lesson and for your more quiet thinkers to have the opportunity to articulate their ideas and thoughts. 
Foster more reflective thinking 
Reflect on your own teaching and lessons and not beat yourself up! 
Exit Tickets 
Are a formative assessment tool to provide the educator with an informal measure of how their students are doing. Students are also able to reflect, think critically, and express their thoughts on what they have just learned. 
Reflection  
This gives students the time to process what they have learned and the time to think about what they have been thinking about. This also helps the teacher know if the students has a clear picture of the what was learned. 
Formative assessments some examples are: 
Ask them to write one thing that stuck with them from the lesson.  
Ask them to verbally answer one question about the day's lesson before they can leave the class.  
Have them create a tweet.  
Have them create a flipgrid. 
Reflections can be either a formative or summative assessment tool 
Examples are 
Journals 
Have them give a classmate an affirmation of the work they did that day.  
Asking questions like this one:  
Any ideas as to why we didn't get very far in today's lesson? 
Think of some exit ticket that you could use in your lesson closure? 
Think creatively 
Exit tickets are short. 
Exit tickets can be daily and are informal.

On Thursday Teacher Talk I am hoping to help you with your lesson plans the difference here is that in classroom settings we have to think about the amount of time we have to teach this one subject or topic so we as classroom teachers must focus on timed activities you however don't you can go on trips and work with or without the resources.

Understanding how your child learns at a much younger age to help them think about what they were put on this earth to do with Lynn Dean Author of The Homeschool Parents a How-To-do series

Intro 
Lynn Dean series she is the Author of The Homeschool Parents’ How-To Series–four online courses packed with tips for how to teach to a child’s strengths, how to merge lessons with life, how to encourage creativity, and how to raise a hero. Her books "How to Teach the Way Your Child Learns" helps us understand that if the doorways of understanding aren’t opening, maybe we need to try a different key. She highlights how temperament type, learning styles, and natural gifts affect the ways your child learns and how YOU can use this key understanding to unlock your child’s potential. 
She also has How to Make Learning Meaningful, Memorable, and Fun 
Highlighting that  we remember only 10- 20% of what we read in books or hear in lectures, but when learning is ACTIVE, retention jumps to 70- 90%! Also How to Encourage Creativity in Your Child, here she talks about the six levels of higher learning which most schools teach only three. Lastly How to Raise a Hero God is the Master Storyteller He is crafting every chapter of HIStory to reveal His ultimate message.

That we would help our children solidify their core values and beliefs so that when we make choices, and sometimes choices are made on a whim they would have a solid foundation and make good choices based on their morals and values on a whim.  
Sometimes we are struggling to do something as simple as open a door; but if we are using a car key to open our front door it isn't going to work. The key is bad and the door is bad it is just the key being used isn't created for what your trying to open! 
Children have their own way of learning and most of the time textbooks do not work!! Understanding how your child learns and finding what they are good at what fires them up that we can begin at a much younger age to help them think about what they were put on this earth to do!
