The Homeschool Advantage is a podcast about reclaiming learning as a way of life.
Hosted by educator, author, and instructional leader Bex Buzzie, the show explores how families, teachers, and educational leaders can support meaningful learning—whether children are homeschooled, enrolled in public or charter schools, or navigating a blend of both.
Drawing from over two decades in education and recent work in educational leadership, Bex brings together voices from across the learning landscape, including homeschool families, classroom teachers, curriculum creators, microschools, co-ops, and education innovators.
This is not a podcast about choosing the “perfect” system.
It’s about partnership, posture, and presence.
Whether you’re a parent supporting learning at home, a teacher rethinking instruction, or an educator seeking deeper alignment between school and life, The Homeschool Advantage offers thoughtful conversations, practical insights, and a return to the basics of how learning actually happens.
Because homeschooling isn’t a location.
It’s a posture.

Melody Gonzales Program Coordinator of Kallpachay. The idea behind Kallpachay took root when its founder and director, Miriam Epstein, observed the ease with which her group of preschool-age students were learning Spanish in an immersion setting.
Her Waldorf training emphasized the importance of an arts-based approach to primary-language education as well as the idea that children learn best through play and context-rich settings, and seeing this process unfold with a second language made it clear to her that the current model of second-language education was in need of an overhaul.
Her initial plan to contribute to this need was to start a Spanish immersion summer camp where an ideal synthesis of play and language learning could be realized.
Kallpachay has, from its inception, been nothing short of a labor of love. Her goal in starting this company was to provide children with enriching Spanish education experiences and honor their enthusiasm for life and learning.
Top three takeaways
- How many US presidents were homeschooled (Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, etc.), many scientist were homeschooled (Toma Edison and Alexander GrahamBell).
- How their program provides versatility to adapt to every type of classroom and every level of the student.
- How the children can learn Spanish not in the traditional method but in a very fun, engaging and enjoyable program.

Ekiuwa Aire CEO of Our Ancestories, a born and Raised in Benin City Nigeria, this Nigerian-Canadian cultural connector is passionate about building a love and knowledge of African history and culture with all kids. She was initially motivated by a desire to teach her own children about their history. She noticed the lack of children’s books on true African history that was uplifting, encouraging and inspirational.
So Ekuiwa founded Our Ancestories and became a storyteller contributing to the preservation of African heritage and culture taking every opportunity she can to share her knowledge and journey with others in her books! These books are so positive, empowering, encouraging and informative listen to what people are saying
It’s rare to find stories set in ancient Africa, particularly those that are written by #ownvoices authors. (Aire grew up in Benin City.) Both the imaginative, fast-paced text and detailed illustrations will engage children with this 500 year old history.
This unique story lyrically fills an obvious hole in picture books, animating a powerful figure and showing children that they can achieve their dreams, literal or metaphorical, through perseverance.
Top three takeaways
- The gap in the market on African History children's books.
- How it is important for kids to learn about the Africa History through their books .
- And the importance to educate kids in a way that does not paint the world with a one sided view. Your kids will thank you for it.

Yvonne Strachan CEO of Inspirational Homeschooling she felt like she was carving out a new path for her family when she started homeschooling. She didn’t have a computer, the internet, YouTube, or social media. She faced challenges with learning difficulties and worked through the struggles that come with chronic illness and a debilitating injury. Even though she felt unequipped before she started, she learned along the way. And through it all, her faith was strengthened. She grew a deep desire to inspire others, reassuring them that they can and will succeed in cultivating knowledgeable, compassionate, gifted, faith-filled individuals that will impact our world in a positive way.
Therefore, she wrote her book Inspirational Homeschooling. She has also written articles for organizations and magazines such as The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, Christian Home Educators of Colorado, Homeschool Update magazine and more. Yvonne devotes her time to consult with homeschooling families free of charge, speak at conventions and for homeschool groups, and developed a website (InspirationalHomeschooling.com) that equips parents with resources.
You can purchase the Inspirational Homeschooling book on Amazon, Walmart, and Barnes and Noble.com. You can also visit her website for free resources and to schedule a free 30 minute personalized homeschool consultation.
Top three takeaways
- Homeschool students gain confidence as they work through situations in a home setting because they are not confuse with conflicting beliefs and convictions from the home to a different school environment. Things like acceptance or negative influences or comments by jealous or demeaning kids don't worried them.
- The benefit of homeschooling is that we can pinpoint situations that cause our kids discomfort and encourage and teach them how to engage and relate in different settings.
- Most homeschool kids are not intimidated by adults and can work with and relate to children of all ages. They easily adapt to different age groups and settings because they are exposed to a wide array of situations from field trips, gatherings, extracurricular activities, and study areas throughout the year, rather than the same group of kids and setting five days each week.
