The Homeschool Advantage is a podcast about reclaiming learning as a way of life.
Hosted by educator, author, and instructional leader Bex Buzzie, the show explores how families, teachers, and educational leaders can support meaningful learning—whether children are homeschooled, enrolled in public or charter schools, or navigating a blend of both.
Drawing from over two decades in education and recent work in educational leadership, Bex brings together voices from across the learning landscape, including homeschool families, classroom teachers, curriculum creators, microschools, co-ops, and education innovators.
This is not a podcast about choosing the “perfect” system.
It’s about partnership, posture, and presence.
Whether you’re a parent supporting learning at home, a teacher rethinking instruction, or an educator seeking deeper alignment between school and life, The Homeschool Advantage offers thoughtful conversations, practical insights, and a return to the basics of how learning actually happens.
Because homeschooling isn’t a location.
It’s a posture.

That YOU can have a peaceful relationship with them (most of the time). YOU can help your children to be successful and well-educated. YOU can give them the individual attention that they need and YOU can tailor their education to fit them.
They are here to help families to feel inspired to homeschool, to stay the course and to feel more confident in their choice. It doesn't need to be difficult if you have right the tools and mindset needed the journey will be sweet!
Top three takeaways
- They want parents to understand that homeschooling at its best is a lifestyle of learning. It doesn't have to be public school at home.
- If we keep the mindset that our goal is loving learning rather than checking the boxes it creates a totally different environment, prevents boredom and burnout and creates lifetime learners that can self-teach.
- Homeschooling can be so much fun for the entire family if it is approached with flexibility and the mindset of learning over rigid academics

Erika Sagert is one of the teachers of the Hope Learning Center. Erika knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a teacher. Her grandmother and mother were both teachers and being able to realize this dream from such an early age has been nothing but a blessing in her life." Erika took a hiatus from teaching to raise her four children and once her oldest grew to school age, it was a natural transition to begin homeschooling.
For many of those homeschooling years, Erika taught classes in different locations and in 2015 Erika partnered with Kathleen Baker at Hope Learning Center. Here she began teaching elementary science, history, and high school English. Eventually she signed on with Academy Northwest© and became a teacher consultant. Erika has a passion for teaching students to be excellent, solid thinkers who are grounded in a Christian worldview. She firmly believes it is her job to guide students as they pursue their dreams and God-given abilities, all while fostering a lifelong love of learning."
Top three takeaways
- No two homeschooling experiences are the same.
- Each child has different needs. Parents need to consider the needs of each of their children.
- How they design their courses to fit the gifted students and offer one-on-one tutoring and accommodations for the challenges students may face.

Dr. Adrian Gonzalez Founder of Lola Durez STEM MysteriesThis book series for teens and tweens is designed to raise awareness of the physical and chemical world around them, and the direct connections they have to it. Presented in a fictional story format, concepts that seem boring and irrelevant to young readers are presented in the familiar context of a fictional teenager's life. More topics and themes can be presented in this format than there are elements in the periodic table!
The book series isn't a replacement for traditional science/math textbooks. Rather, it's a fun and engaging complement to traditional learning experiences.

- There's lots of help and connections for the homeschooling community.
- The homeschooling network is vast and growing.
