Starting WIth the End in Mind with Bex Buzzie Part 2

Why starting with the end in mind will be so helpful.  

Top reasons 

1. Beginning with the end in mind maximizes the potential of you achieving the desired goal.  
2. You are starting with a clear understanding of the destination.  
3. You will also avoid doing things just for the sake of doing them, you can and will be more intentional with your time and resources if you have the end in mind.  
4. You can think about actions and potential outcomes before they happen and how you will react.  
5. You are always prepared 
6. You can determine if an assignment or topic is worth pursuing because you know your final destination.  

Example: If you are looking to lose weight you know planning you meals in advance is very important otherwise you will be scurrying for food and it probably won't be good. 

 

Find out any laws in your state as to what is required for your state.  

Once you know that start mapping it out starting with end in mind.  

I want you to take your paper and jot down  

1. What are the subjects you want to teach 3 or 4 tops and sure one is an elective like art, music, dance, something in that vein. Right brain Left brain.  
2. What about those subjects excites you?  
3. What about those subjects excites your kids? 

Preliminary Research Questions

1. Take time to find out the cool things in the subject, like subcategories within the subject, maybe some specific niche things.  
2. What have other people done?  
3. What are your kids strengths? 
4. What are they really good at? 

Things you need to think about: 

1. Are you looking to educate for mastery in this area or a basic understanding?   
2. As you figure out the subjects look ahead what are the goals for each subject? 
3. What books or literature are you going to read 
4. What videos are you going to use? 
5. What projects are you going to do?   
6. How are you going to use the Socratic Method to foster critical thinking skills?  
7. Are you wanting to teach thematic? Spiral?  
8. Are you wanting to use Montessori style, Charlotte Mason, PBL, inquiry based learning or a little bit of everything?  
9. Will you be outdoors? Play-based? 
10. Are you going to write a mission and vision statement for the family?  
11. Are you going to teach all the subjects or are you going to do some and partner with others?
